Being anti-abortion or pro-life does not mean that I do not value all life equally. In fact, the core tenets of Christianity emphasize the inherent worth and sanctity of every human life, regardless of religion, race, background, sex, or age. This blog aims to shed light on the Christian perspective regarding the value of all life, supported by scriptural references, and explain why advocating for the unborn holds a particular calling.

The Value of Life in Christianity

Christianity teaches that all life is a precious gift from God, and as a believer, we are called to respect and preserve it. The Bible provides numerous verses that reinforce the significance of valuing every human life:

  • Genesis 1:27: "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." This verse establishes the intrinsic value of every individual, as we are all created in the image of God.

  • Psalm 139:13-14: "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well." These verses highlight the divine craftsmanship involved in each person's creation, even before birth.

  • Jeremiah 1:5: "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." This verse reveals that God has a purpose for each individual's life, even before birth.

  • Matthew 25:40: "And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'" Jesus' words remind us that our treatment of others, especially the vulnerable, reflects our love for Him.

These scriptural references, among many others, emphasize every human life's inherent worth and value. As Christians, it is our duty to uphold and protect this value in all circumstances.

A Specific Calling: Advocating for the Unborn

While recognizing the value of all life, I feel a specific calling to advocate for the unborn. This calling stems from a deep conviction to stand up for the most vulnerable members of society. The unborn, who are unable to speak for themselves, deserve our protection and care.

Throughout history, believers have been called to defend those who cannot defend themselves. In the same way, the Bible encourages Christians to protect the weak and voiceless:

  • Proverbs 31:8-9: "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." These verses emphasize the responsibility to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves.

  • Psalm 82:3-4: "Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked." This passage reinforces the duty to protect and rescue those who are defenseless.

  • Matthew 18:5: "And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me." Jesus' words remind us of the significance of caring for children, who symbolize vulnerability and innocence.

By answering the specific calling to advocate for the unborn, I aim to fulfill the role of protector and defender of life. This does not diminish the value of other lives but rather highlights the urgency and vulnerability of the unborn.

Conclusion

In conclusion, being anti-abortion or pro-life does not mean that I disregard the value of all life. On the contrary, Christianity teaches that every human life is inherently valuable and worthy of preservation. The scriptural references provided demonstrate the divine perspective on the sanctity of life.

However, some Christians such as I, feel a specific calling to advocate for the unborn, recognizing their vulnerability and the need for protection. This calling aligns with the biblical teachings to defend the weak, voiceless, and marginalized. By embracing this calling, I strive to fulfill their duty as a protector of their life.

Ultimately, as Christians, we should value and advocate for all life, recognizing each individual's unique calling. By upholding the sanctity of life from conception to natural death, we honor God's creation and demonstrate our love for Him.
