The Value of the Unborn: A Pro-Life Biblical Perspective

Introduction
In our society, there is a group of individuals who are incredibly vulnerable, yet often overlooked and disregarded - the unborn. As followers of Christ, it is essential for us to recognize the value and sanctity of every human life, including those who have not yet taken their first breath. In this blog, we will explore the biblical perspective on the worth of the unborn and why it is crucial for us to stand up and fight for their rights.
The Unborn are Precious in God's Sight
The Bible teaches us that every human life is valuable and precious in the sight of the Lord. In Psalm 139:13-16, King David writes, "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them."
This beautiful passage reminds us that God is intimately involved in the creation of every human life, even before birth. The unborn child is fearfully and wonderfully made by the hand of God, and He has a purpose and plan for each one of them. As believers, we must recognize and honor this divine plan.
Advocating for the Voiceless
One of the most compelling reasons to stand up for the rights of the unborn is their inability to speak for, defend, or protect themselves. The unborn do not have a voice in our society, and it is our responsibility to be their advocates. Proverbs 31:8-9 instructs us, "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice."
As followers of Christ, we are called to defend the defenseless and protect the vulnerable. The unborn fall into this category, as they are entirely dependent on others for their well-being and survival. We have a moral obligation to fight for their rights and ensure that they are given the opportunity to experience the gift of life.
The Inconsistency of Abortion
It is indeed perplexing and contradictory to consider that a baby delivered early is considered human life, deserving of protection and care, while that same baby in the womb can be aborted because it is not recognized as human life. This inconsistency in our society's perception of the unborn is both illogical and unjust.
Jeremiah 1:5 affirms the personhood and value of the unborn when God says to the prophet, "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." This verse clearly demonstrates that God recognizes and has a purpose for each individual even before they are born. If God places such significance on the unborn, who are we to disregard their worth?
Furthermore, science and medical advancements have proven that human life begins at conception. From the moment of fertilization, a unique and genetically distinct individual comes into existence. Therefore, it is inconsistent and irrational to deny the humanity and rights of the unborn.
Being Bold in Our Stand
As believers, we are called to be bold in our stand for the rights of the unborn. Proverbs 24:11-12 urges us, "Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die; save them as they stagger to their death. Don't excuse yourself by saying, 'Look, we didn't know.' For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve."
We cannot turn a blind eye to the plight of the unborn. We must be willing to step out of our comfort zones, engage in conversations, and take action to protect and defend their rights. This may involve supporting pro-life organizations, advocating for legislation that protects the unborn, or offering practical and emotional support to women facing unplanned pregnancies.
Conclusion
The unborn are precious in the sight of the Lord, fearfully and wonderfully made by His hand. As followers of Christ, we are called to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves and defend the defenseless. The inconsistency of society's perception of the unborn and the scientific evidence of their humanity only highlight the urgency of our stand.
Let us be bold, compassionate, and unwavering in our commitment to fight for the rights of the unborn. May we be vessels of love and grace, extending support and understanding to those facing difficult decisions, and ultimately, may we be a voice for the voiceless, advocating for the sanctity of every human life.
